What is Be Your Anything about?
This book is about a lot of things. It’s about two characters – Lucas Pearson and Lennon Day – navigating a relationship that’s two decades in the making. It’s about standing up for yourself and what you deserve, in work, life and love. It’s about friendships and supporting each other. But mostly, it’s about understanding who you are and what you want, and then being willing to reach out and grab it.
What are the tropes you hit in this book?
1) Best friend’s brother
2) Unrequited love
3) Friends to lovers
4) Other woman (not cheating)
Where in the timeline does BYA exist in the Hermosa Beach Series?
Promise Me Nothing ends on a Sunday afternoon. Be Your Anything starts on that same Sunday evening. Lucas references the end of the previous novel as he floats in the ocean, reflecting on life and on what life is like now that his sister is living with him. It took a long time to decide on the timeline, and I went back and forth with wondering if I should have done more overlapping between the two. But I ended up really happy with how the timeline worked out.
What does the title mean?
As I referenced earlier, there’s a lot of character change and growth… personal realizations about worth and value. The title – Be Your Anything – is in relation to that, specifically regarding Lennon and how she is willing to be anything Lucas wants. A girlfriend, a friend, a mistress. I don’t want to say too much more about it because I don’t want to give too much plot away.
If your book was made into a movie, what celebrities would star in it?
I’ve been pretty active in my Pinterest board recently, so definitely go check it out (HERE). But my Lennon would be played by Shailene Woodley. Without a doubt. That kind of understated strength? So perfect. My Lucas would be played by someone a little less famous. I actually found this guy on Pinterest. His name is Devin Paisley and OMG he is such a Lucas!
Why should a reader pick up this book?
One of the things that I hear from readers over and over is that the characters I write feel real. And I know some people like to read romance because it is an escape. I think Be Your Anything is the perfect marriage of the two. It’s escapist in that this very wealthy world filled with people who care about image and status is a place to get lost in. Crazy money and names with power and just some really intense things that do not happen to all of us normal people. But at the same time, the characters could be someone you went to school with or someone who works in the cubicle next to yours. Their reactions are raw and real and they bleed all over the pages. So, the reason you should pick up this book is because you can escape into something that feels real.
What is coming next in the Hermosa Beach Series?
Well, I can’t share too much as it would give away plot points and some elements to Be Your Anything that I don’t want to share. However, I can announce that book number three’s title is Give My Everything, and I’m hoping to release it just after Christmas
